The National Association of Counties (NACo) is the only national organization that represents county governments in the United States. Founded in 1935, NACo provides essential services to the nation’s 3,069 counties. Through NACo, county officials can advocate with a collective voice on national policy; exchange ideas and build new leadership skills; pursue transformational, cost-effective solutions; enrich the public’s understanding of county government; and exercise exemplary leadership in public service.

To encourage local officials from Florida to get involved with NACo, the Florida Association of Counties (FAC) created the NACo Resources web page. This resource page serves as a tool to learn how to participate in NACo policy steering committees and presidential leadership roles, connect with NACo staff, and stay informed on NACo news and events.

NACo has 10 policy steering committees and 21 other committees covering a wide range of county issues. Policy steering committee members are nominated by state associations and serve one-year terms. See Florida’s representation on NACo’s policy steering committees and learn how you can get involved.

For appointment on specific steering, standing, or ad hoc committees, individuals must be appointed by the NACo President that year. Appointments are announced during the NACo Annual Conference in July each year. Learn more about applying to be a part of these committees.

The NACo executive committee consists of 8 member elected officials: president, first vice-president, second vice-president and immediate past president, and four regional representatives elected by regional caucuses. Connect with NACo staff and their executive committee to learn more about the issues most pressing to America’s counties.

NACo host three conferences a year in various counties across the country. Conference provide a unique opportunity for Florida’s elected officials to collaborate with other county representatives on issues impacting local governments. Register now for NACo’s upcoming events!

Stay up-to-date up on any news NACo releases to counties on the local and national level.
